CEDEWAIN Special Needs School in Newtown has been recognised for its outstanding commitment to disability football.
The school has regularly competed in national events to earn the praise of the Welsh Schools Football Association (WSFA).
?
The WSFA marked its centenary season with each of its officers donating trophies for competitions and festivals organised by the association.
?
John Mann, WSFA disability football officer, donated a trophy to be awarded to a school demonstrating ?outstanding commitment to disability football.?
Welsh Football Trust development programmes manager Jamie Clewer congratulated the school.
?The award was made to Cedewain School because of an outstanding commitment and development,? he said. ?They have grown as a team and as individual footballers.
?The first year of entering some players were three or four years younger than their opponents. Thisachievement was confirmed when they won the U14 C band competition this year and ended the tournament unbeaten.?
?The team have always exhibited outstanding fair play, never once letting their heads drop when they have lost matches.
?The players play the game with smiles on their faces and supporting and helping opponents when injured or upset.
?For me the school epitomises everything that the disability programme is about.
David Nickless, chairman of the Welsh Schools' FA also endorsed the Cedewain award.
He said: ?I congratulate pupils and staff of Cedewain School on their achievement and I look forward to meeting up with many of them at this season?s festivals.
?Cedewain?s pupils and staff epitomise all that is good about children's football.?
