Report: Email lists see sharp rental price decline - Direct Marketing ...

There has been a more than 12% year-over year drop in pricing for permission-based small- and medium-sized business email files, from $163 to $143, according to Worldata's Winter 2012 List Price Index, released Feb. 8.

Permission-based medium and large business email lists dropped 10.4% in price from last year from $280 to $251, while permission-based b-to-c email lists declined 21.5% from $120 to $80, according to the report.

Excluding an almost 15% drop for aggregated business database lists, down $14 from last year's $94, postal lists prices were otherwise generally steady across the board. The books & CDs, business merchandise buyers, consumer magazines, donors and public sector categories saw minor increases, though none grew by more than $2 over last year.

The reduced price trend in the email sector is mostly the result of competition between list providers, said Worldata SVP Ray Tesi in a statement, noting that there is ?a huge push toward the small-medium business market right now.?

Worldata, a Florida-based company, tracks the changes in list rental pricing each season and reports its findings.
