How to Home Brew ? ArticleComfort.com

Are you new to brewing beer at home? Possibly your New Year?s resolution is to get started with home brewing? If that describes you, this three-part series is just right for you. My guide will take you through everything you need to get started brewing your own beer at home from start to finish like what gear you?ll need, how to brew & ferment your beer, and how to bottle and age it.

contrary to everyday opinion, you don?t have to spend a lot of money on sophisticated, pricey supplies to brew your own beer.

Here?s a checklist of what you?ll need:

. Large Pot ? should hold not less than 3 gallons. Go even bigger if possible since a larger container will hold more, leading to significantly less spillage.
. Tubing & Clamp ? to pour beer from one container to another & to bottle your home brew. A 5 foot segment of 5/16-inch ID (inner diameter) food grade tubing will do. The larger sized the diameter, the quicker you can transfer your beer. Make certain that the clamps you find go with the ID (inner diameter) or OD (outer diameter) of your tubing.
. 5-Gallon Carboy ? A carboy is basically merely a glass container. A 5-gallon airtight bucket will also do, will also do the trick, still I favor a glass carboy with a rubber stopper because the airtight seal on a carboy has never broken on me (that?s happened to me with plastic buckets).
. An Air Lock and Stopper ? sizes will fluctuate; you must get one that works with your fermenter (carboy or plastic bucket).
. A Bottle Filler ? ensure the tubing & clamps are measured to match the bottler.
. A Thermometer ? you will need a thermometer with a range of 0-100 degrees Celsius or 32-220 degrees Fahrenheit. Floating thermometers can be a good option.
. Bottles ? 5 gallons of beer ought to fill approximately 54 12-ounce bottles or 27 24-ounce bottles so prepare accordingly. You should not scrimp here, buy high-quality bottles that aren?t fastened with a plastic twist-off top. You?ll need the ones you actually need a bottle opener to open.
. Bottle Brush ? Sanitation is key! This may not be mandatory, but I would recommend it and I normally recommend taking every step to make certain your home brewing equipment is as sanitary as it possibly can be!
. A Bottle Capper ? a hand powered unit to cap your bottles
. Bottle Caps ? this is pretty self-explanatory, but you?ll want as many caps as beer bottles. Additionally, the majority of beer caps will fit nearly all beer bottles so if you can?t find any measurements on the bottles you?re buying they will usually work. You should verify just in case.
. Sanitizing Solution ? Beer is incredibly subject to bacteria or contamination so I can?t stress enough how essential it is to thoroughly disinfect before & after brewing. You can use household bleach but you?ll have to clean thoroughly to avoid bleach contamination. I recommend iodophor or starsan. Personally, I use iodophor.
