Hosted VoIP MAC Charges | S.O.S Communications Blog - Winters Sid ...

MAC = Moves ? Adds ? Changes

Some, but not all, hosted companies will have MAC charges. If your hosted provider charges for them you need to know upfront.?I prefer to deal with providers that have zero MAC fees, but it?s not always the case.

If you are looking at Hosted VoIP one important thing to consider with MAC charges is exactly what you?re going to be charged for. This needs to be clearly defined in your contract. You don?t want to find out after the system has been installed that you?re now charged ?X? amount for certain changes. These can add up over time.

The good news about MAC charges is that they are usually inexpensive when compared to a premise based system. Many communications companies, and I probably could go a bit further and say almost all, charge $100-$150 hour for moves, adds, changes and repairs with a trip charge of $45-$60.

If you own your PBX it?s best to calculate your cost of ownership. It needs to be considered when looking at Hosted VoIP. If you?re comparing premise based and hosted you need to figure this into your cost matrix. You?ll be surprised at the cost difference between the two over a decade.

Michael Thannert represents Hosted VoIP companies nationwide. You can reach him through the links ?find me elsewhere? provided at the bottom of this page.
