John Wallace Baird (1869-1919) was born and raised in southwestern Ontario, earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in 1897. He would ultimately rise to become the first Canadian-born President of the American Psychological Association at a critical turning point in the discipline's history, during World War I. He was also the director of the laboratory in the famed Clark University psychology department, led by G. Stanley Hall, and died just months before succeeding Hall into the presidency of Clark. Baird studied briefly with Wilhelm Wundt, earned his PhD from E. B. Titchener, and taught at Johns Hopkins and the University of Illinois. When he was stricken with what would be his fatal illness, he was serving as Vice-Chair of the Psychology Committee of the U. S. National Research Council. Jennifer Hawkins on Wedding-Night Lingerie, Retro Photo-Shoots and Lovable SS'13

Few Australian supermodels boast a CV like Jennifer Hawkins' ? she's a Myer Ambassador, Top Model Host and the face of lingerie giant Bendon's Lovable range ? and her list of front-of-camera accomplishments is seemingly endless. We recently caught up with the newly-married model to chat about her latest shoot for Lovable's SS'13 (available to shop here) ? and threw in a few cheeky wedding-night questions that we couldn't resist asking. This is how it went down

PS: What?s your favourite piece/set in the Lovable SS'13 collection?
JH: We shot the Layla Racer back bra set in a sexy black?? it is going to be a staple for sure!

PS: And the shoot sounds like it will have a vintage/retro theme ? are you a fan of vintage fashion?
JH: Vintage definitely has its place in fashion, and it makes for a very fun theme. One of the props for the Lovable shoot was a restored 50?s Cadillac?? VERY COOL!

PS: Can you tell us a bit about the shoot creative?
JH: The shoot had a Havana theme ? it was all very '50s femme which gave the Lovable collection a really retro feel. I managed to escape the beehive trend though ? phew!

PS: How do you fit it all in: Australia's Next Top Model, Lovable shoot commitments plus your own swimwear and shoe lines plus being a new wife? You must have boundless energy!
JH: I have a very large diary that comes with me everywhere?? hah! On a serious note, loving what you do makes it easier to fit things in.

PS: Forgive us for asking, but in all seriousness - what underwear did you wear on your wedding day?
JH: Hmm? Secrets, secrets. Only Jake knows that.

PS: Did you need something nude-coloured and functional?
JH: Definitely not functional. Sexy is a must!

PS: Any suggestions for brides-to-be?
JH: Think about what your future hubby would love... And wear that. Have some fun.

Get Your Car Organized for Summer Road Trips - RealEstate.com

Summer is well underway and the peak car travel season has arrived. Make sure you are ready for it ? whether you are traveling across town from one barbeque to the next or across the state to your summer destination of choice. These vehicle-organizing tips are sure to keep you cool regardless of where your destination may be.

Day-to-Day Necessities

Preparation for the day-to-day tasks that take place in your car, such as commuting or running errands, is the first place to start. Of course, this list will be different for everyone, but I frequently find myself being glad I have wet wipes and antibacterial gel, a pen and notepad, small packs of tissues, a lint-roller, a pair of sunglasses, and reusable shopping bags in my car at all times. You may also appreciate having a few travel-size toiletry necessities like sunscreen, hand lotion, breath freshener and lipstick. To keep a clear and nourished mind, always keep water, snacks and pain relief medicine for when your day turns out to be longer or more tiring than expected. Use medium-size travel toiletry pouches to contain these items in the car.

Be Ready for the Unexpected

One benefit of being organized is you are ready for the unexpected.? When organizing your car, be sure to include items for those unexpected emergencies, which hopefully will never happen! The unexpected drained cell phone can be avoided with a power inverter that turns your cigarette lighter into a standard three-prong outlet along with an extra phone charger. The unexpected dead battery or flat tire can be resolved with a flashlight, extra batteries, a can of Fix-a-Flat and jumper cables. A small auto tool kit and first-aid kit should also be on hand for emergencies. When traveling long distances in cold temperatures, also be sure to have a blanket in the car in case you are forced to wait in your cold car for help to arrive. These emergency items can be stored in a small bin in your trunk or possibly with the spare tire in the stow area, depending on your vehicle?s layout.

Ensure Your Items are Properly Stowed

With the above list of items in your vehicle, you are ready for the everyday and the unexpected, but now you need to store them. Here are some products for keeping your car items neat and stowed.

  • Car Wallet - Keep your vehicle?s registration and insurance cards tidy in a car wallet or a just a rigid plastic envelope.
  • Auto Trash Bag ? Keep any trash generated in the car off of the ground and out of your purse by purchasing a small trash bag. There are numerous types of car trash bags on the market, but I like something simple, fairly small and made of dark, cleanable material that I can hang on the back of the front passenger seat.
  • Front Seat Organizer - When traveling alone, keep the items you need within reach and contained. Don?t set them on the passenger seat where they are sure to shift during driving. When you have a passenger in the front with you, just swing the organizing unit around to be stored on the backside of the passenger seat.
  • Rear-Seat Organizer ? When traveling with passengers in the backseat, especially children, utilize a backseat organizer. This will store items within easy reach and keep each passenger entertained during the car ride.
  • Keepin? it Cool - If you are packing lunches, snacks or drinks, a combined cooler and organizer is great. You get the advantage of a built-in cooler with storage on the outside as well. This is great for backseat passengers to be able to access, and it can also be used to keep groceries cold while running errands.
  • Trunk Organizer - To keep the larger items you tote in your trunk from shifting around and toppling over, utilize one of the many types of trunk organizers. I prefer the organizers that have flexible Velcro dividers for sectioning off items as your needs change. The one shown below is just the right size for keeping file folders upright and tidy and has a seatbelt strap if you choose to strap it into a passenger seat. It also features a lid that folds back to hide the contents and keep the inside free of dust and debris. When looking at trunk organizers, I also recommend finding an option that collapses when not in use to maximize your trunk space. The trunk organizer featured is a size that likely will fit the average need; however, if you are often toting many items, you may prefer having a larger trunk organizer.

?

Enjoy your organized summer travels!

Warmly,

Laura Leist, CPO

USC Modile App For Utica School Info Available At Apple Store, Android Market

UTICA - Utica Community Schools and LTGI.net have announced a news and information app for the state's second largest school district is now available at the Apple store and the Android market for Smart Phones and tablet computers. The app, UCS Mobile (named for Utica Community Schools), The app allows interested parents, students and community members to get the latest news, calendars, school lunch menus, athletic results, contact numbers and other important information about Utica Community Schools. ?UCS Mobile is another tool that allows our community to get updated information on our schools at any time,? superintendent Christine Johns said. ?Combined with our other social media sites, our parents and community can get the news they need directly from their phone or tablet.? Produced by LTGI.net, the app is free to download either on Apple or Android. During its initial launch a year ago, the app was developed in just 10 weeks for LTGI to create from concept to completion. LTGI.net and Utica Community Schools are also considering a possible future Windows smart phone version. Utica Community Schools also uses LTGI?s Applicant Central product for online employment applications and applicant management. ?Utica Community Schools is committed to transparency and providing real-time information to its entire school community,? said LTGI.net President Troy Lindner. ?We?ve worked side-by-side with all of our customers for the last decade creating solutions for fast and easy access to that information.? LTGI.net adopted a "Mobile First" design principle in late 2011. The Rochester-based company now begins every product development and revision with mobile devices in mind because of their increase in daily use. ?We believe that the ease, simplicity, and speed of mobile devices are promoting the trend toward consumers using these devices as their primary means of accessing school information,? Lindner said. ?Mobile devices will play an ever-increasing role for day-to-day parent, teacher and school communications.?

How we handle security at iMore: Our apps and approaches to keeping safe online!

How we handle security at iMore: Our apps and approaches to keeping safe online!

All this week on Talk Mobile we've been discussing security - how we keep our information, and the information of others safe. Each of us here at iMore have different approaches, different go-to apps and authentication methods, and generally different levels of paranoia we try to balance with the realities of time and convenience. So what do we do? What security apps and authentication approaches make up our personal arsenals? Here we go...

Rene Ritchie

1Password 4 for iPhone

My security begins with unique passwords for each of my Macs, desktop and laptop, and unique Passcodes for my primary iOS devices, an iPhone 5 and iPad mini. Yes, I do mix them up frequently, but retyping something is a small price to pay for satiating paranoia. Once inside, I use 1Password to manage everything and anything security related. I use a strong master password to access 1Password, of course, but then 1Password generates, records, manages, and auto-completes unique passwords for every other app and service I use.

This works amazingly well on the Mac and Windows, but is still a huge pain in the ass on mobile. That's not 1Password's fault - Apple doesn't allow the same type of browser plugins on iOS as they do on the Mac, and even Android isn't as conducive. Combine that with passwords being harder to enter on mobile in general, and it makes me hope those automagical thumbprint reader rumors manifest sooner rather than later. (Safari's new iCloud Keychain sync could solve part of the problem, if you're Apple only, but hopefully 1Password and other managers will be able to sync with it as well so cross-platform types can enjoy the best of all worlds.)

I have 2-step verification set up for Google and Dropbox, but I still get bad tokens and sometimes get locked out of my own stuff. It's annoying enough I sometimes consider turning it off, but again, paranoia demands I don't. Still, I'd dearly love them to get their sh!t together on this, because it's important.

I don't currently use any onion routers or end-to-end encrypted communications systems, because while I think the idea of illegal spying by governments is repulsive and counter to the very freedoms they're sworn to defend - seriously, make a case to the people and change the laws if you think you're in the right, don't violate them - there's no major system I trust anyway, and rolling my own is too much overhead. My paranoia, it seems, can crumble in the face of practicality at times.

Then again, I'm careful what I put online, how and where I access things, and with whom I share what. I assume anything that touches the internet in any way will eventually become public, so I don't put up anything that I'd have a problem with being public.

Find my iPhone gives me remote tracking and wiping capabilities, something I've had to use in the past when my car window was smashed at the mall and my MacBook Pro and iPad 3 stolen.

Ally Kazmucha - how to editor

As far as iOS security goes, I have a password on every single device I own. I also have Find My iPhone/Find My Mac installed on any computer or iOS device I have in my possession. I also keep desktop passwords on all my Macs. Not any one of them are the same either. Any backups that I make I also encrypt in case they fell into the wrong hands.

As for logins to other general websites and services, never the same passwords! Since I can't possibly remember all my logins, I use 1Password religiously on both iOS and OS X. I also use it to generate passwords for me for new accounts. They're much more secure than anything I could ever dream up. I only really use my own passwords for things I need to log in to frequently and don't have time to fiddle with 1Password each time. Even then, I make them extremely difficult to guess.

If a service offers me two-step authentication, I use that as well. I've got it set up for iCloud, Google, and Dropbox for sure and keep an eye on other services that offer it as well.

Richard Devine

mSecure for iPhone

When it comes to passwords, mSecure is my chosen security tool of choice. I appreciate that in many respects 1Password is a better choice, but I've been invested in mSecure since first picking it up as a free app of the day in the Amazon Appstore for Android. With a decent Mac client, and sync between iPhone, iPad and Mac ? and other, non Apple platforms ? possible using Dropbox, it keeps everything I need to keep hidden, everywhere. And of course, I still use it to generate those random passwords that are so crucial.

Generally I have different pass codes on my different mobile devices, likewise each of my Mac's is locked with a different password. Specific to my Apple gear I of course have Find my iPhone installed on my iOS devices just in case. I'm actually really looking forward to the new security features iOS 7 will bring as well.

Outside of this, the biggest thing I rely on is 2-Step Authentication. Google, Dropbox, Apple ID are the three biggest, with the first two kept within Google's own Authenticator app. It's a pretty awful application ? it doesn't even support the iPhone 5 display ? but it does the job.

Simon Sage

Yep, it's a pain having to wait for a call or text for a code to punch in alongside your Google credentials every time you're logging into a new service, or worse still, having to manually generate a passcode, but I've got enough important stuff strapped to my Google account that 2-step authentication is a necessary evil. It's easy enough to set up, and once you've set up your usual go-to services, it's not something you have to wrangle with often.

Peter Cohen

1Password is an enormously useful utility when it comes to managing passwords on my systems. And, in fact, that's where a lot of my security begins and ends. Having said that, I use two-factor authentication wherever I can. Two factor authentication is a process supported by more and more web services. It relies on a fundamental concept: Something You Know (like a password) and Something You Have (like a cell phone). In practical terms, what happens is that you enter a password and get a second code sent to your cell phone, which you then have to enter to proceed. It's simply a more secure way of making sure you're you. Sure, it's not foolproof - if someone stole both my laptop and my cell phone, they could potentially get around it - but it helps make sure that services I use stay as secure as they can. I use two-factor authentication with my bank, Google and other services.

Your security go-tos?

So that was what we use for security and peace-of-mind on our iOS devices and PCs. What about you? What are your go to password, authentication, verification, backup, and sync apps?

For some, it already is too late to reverse serious neurological damage, said Dr. Michelle Chouinard, Nigeria country director for Doctors Without Borders, told The Associated Press on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013. Some children are blind, others paralyzed, many will struggle at school with learning disabilities, she said.
